Quality Nurse ConsultantsJo Lyn Cornelsen, RN |
Jo Lyn Cornelsen is a Registered Nurse by Profession,
and an Author and Entrepreneur by Choice.
Jo Lyn Cornelsen once had a boss who brought his children to work for her to babysit while she built his Home Health business – yet he wouldn’t allow her the time off to take her own children to the doctor! This inner conflict caused by that experience gave Jo Lyn the motivation to re-structure her life. Jo Lyn knew instinctively that if she could build a business for someone else, she could surely do the same for herself! Once Jo Lyn became self-employed, she never looked back!
Jo Lyn Cornelsen’s first business was Quality Nurse Consultants, a caregiver training company. Jo Lyn leveraged her professional expertise in Nursing and School Teaching into agreements with Washington State ADSA and Aging Services in Washington County, OR, to teach their curriculums beginning in 1996. Since then, over 3000 students have benefited from Jo Lyn’s expertise.
Jo Lyn quickly learned that her students needed more than just a caregiving trainer – they needed a home based business mentor – someone to teach them business practices and help them structure systems to keep their businesses afloat and functional in good times and bad. She became an accomplished Eldercare Advocate and Independent Nurse Consultant, serving clients in Adult Family Homes in Washington and Oregon.
In 2001, Jo Lyn Cornelsen opened her own Adult Family Home, Wisteria Gardens, in Brush Prairie, WA, on their 20 acre family farm. Living in as owner/operator in the Care Home with her family at Wisteria Gardens, Jo Lyn and her staff provided professional care to elderly and disabled individuals for over five years. Her residents came from various areas of Washington and as far away as Utah and North Carolina, and though each one is a unique individual, they had one thing in common – they loved the peaceful serenity, beautiful views and seasons on the farm.
Kevin and Jo Lyn Cornelsen moved off the family farm in 2006, but with caregivers in place, the care home continued to be a vital support to the health and welfare of residents. Jo Lyn struggled with personal health challenges for a time, but was blessed with holistic health renewal through naturopathic care and energy medicine.
Jo Lyn’s elderly parents, Milton and Betty Rasmussen, moved to Wisteria Gardens in January of 2008. Milton's doctor told the family they could do nothing more for him, and to "put him in a care home and on hospice, as he would be gone in three months". Jo Lyn asked "Can we seek naturopathic care?" The doctor said "Yes, use any comfort measures you wish."
With the help of their family, Milt and Betty moved to the Brush Prairie care home. Jo Lyn helped her parents access natural care methods, and their health improved. Nine months later, Milton and Betty moved into the guest house on the property, where they lived independently with part time help in the beautiful surroundings of Wisteria Gardens for another two+ years. In 2011, they moved back to Kennewick to share the home of their dear friends, Ray and Mary Anderson, who had just returned from a church mission in Mongolia. Shortly after Milton and Betty's move back to Kennewick, Jo Lyn made the difficult decision to close the Wisteria Gardens Care Home after 10 years as a professional care provider.
Her years of consulting, teaching and hands-on business experience uniquely qualifies Jo Lyn Cornelsen as an expert in home business, holistic care, and elder care. She developed her natural ability to simplify complicated information, creating operating systems that home business owners could employ and implement in real situations. Jo Lyn has coached her students regarding business entities, facility acquisition, hiring staff, business record keeping, marketing, facility management, health services, documentation, legal issues, holistic health, personal development, energy psychology, the art of interpersonal communication, and working with special populations. All these and more became integrated into Jo Lyn Cornelsen’s proprietary curriculum for the AFH 48 Hour Administrator Training, a class required by Washington State’s ADSA before a person can apply for an Adult Family Home license.
In 2009, WA State caregiver training became an increasingly politically charged issue, with union seeking control of the caregiver industry. The volunteer run AFH Association WSRCC fought union control and won, however, state initiative I-1029 was passed, requiring a change in the caregiver training system in Washington State beginning January 2011. Much confusion ensued in the industry, as implementation of this new law and the $millions it would cost taxpayers became a political fight. In the process, independent caregiver trainers, including Jo Lyn, were notified by the DSHS that their contracts would be ending. The ensuing confusion put trainers, business owners and caregivers at risk for being out of compliance with regulation, and put thousands of elderly and disabled people in Washington State at risk of not receiving qualified, needed care. Ultimately, the implementation of I-1029 was delayed for two years, due to the political pressures and economic costs.
Jo Lyn's commitment to quality living and holistic care remains steady as she shifts her business format to reach out beyond the local AFH industry. She now refers those who need DSHS certificates to other excellent trainers, and focuses her energies on holistic wellness projects, business coaching, product development and marketing.
Jo Lyn says “I am ever so grateful to be so successful as an entrepreneur, and to have the opportunity to share what I have learned with others. I love the challenge and fulfillment that comes from charting my own course, choosing my own direction and living with a sense of my adventure. I am creating my own life, one day at a time, without the hassle of office politics, commuting, or limits to my income. I love the flexibility of my schedule and my availability to my family. I want to share the blessings of home based business, personal development and holistic living with everyone who wants to learn.”
Jo Lyn is thrilled when her students and protégés successfully regaining control over their own lives and personal destinies.
An accomplished speaker, she loves to “shorten the learning curve” for her students and audiences. Jo Lyn Cornelsen knows that “life reflects and magnifies what we focus on”, and that it’s often the simplest of things that contain the most power.
Jo Lyn teaches her coaching clients to think of their troublesome life patterns as stale energy vibrations, and shares simple Energy Therapy methods that can release and clear the issues that get in the way of their progress. Jo Lyn Cornelsen helps her clients relax, validate and release negative emotions and self-limiting habits, enjoy a greater feeling of well-being, boost their confidence, and get back to creating what they really want in their business and personal lives. Jo Lyn Cornelsen calls this process of quality life improvement a quest toward Authentic Wholeness™.
“One of my greatest joys is to give the gift of successful home based business to others. My mission is to help as many families as possible break free from limitations and reach their goals of authentic holistic prosperity.
